Nose types
Prominent dorsal hump
In these patients a dorsal hump was corrected, bringing the shape and size of the nose into harmony with the face, with an excellent result.
The length of the nose should be in proportion to the patient's height, facial features and sex.
The post-operative photo is preferably taken after 6 months, to show the most definitive result.
Assessment looks at the profile, the forehead–nose transition and the relationship between dorsum and tip. A hump may be bony, cartilaginous or mixed; that distinction guides the reduction technique and how much remodelling is needed.
The surgical goal is not to “flatten” the dorsum, but to achieve a dorsal line that fits the face while keeping enough support for the airway. When appropriate, tip or base adjustments are added to keep the balance.
After surgery, swelling that takes time to settle is common. That is why the result is interpreted patiently, with successive follow-up visits, until the shape stabilises.
